The Relationship Edge: Curiosity Is Your Superpower
Early in my career, my dad …who remains one of my greatest mentors… taught me a lesson that has shaped the last 27+ years in all aspects of my life:
Get in the room and ask questions. Lots of questions. Learn from those who have walked the path, you’re wanting to travel. At a very young age my dad instilled that in me. The importance of surrounding yourself with others doing what you are seeking to do. Learn from the people who have gone before you. Learn from leaders in your industry and leaders outside your industry. Be curious about their journey, their mistakes, their successes, and their perspective.
That curiosity that he encouraged me to cultivate has become one of my greatest business assets.
I've often said that my network is my net worth, and that truth became especially apparent during 2020 when gathering in rooms came to an abrupt stop.
During that season, my business partner and hubby - Kelly and I made a conscious decision to pick up the phone and call our clients, friends, colleagues, and business connections. Not to sell them anything. Not to generate business.
Simply to check in. The conversations were simple – yet profound.
How are you doing?
How is your family?
How can we support you?
Years later, people still tell us how much those calls meant to them.
Why?
Because people want to be seen. They want to be heard. They want to know they matter.
Curiosity isn't just a networking skill. It's a relationship-building skill.
And relationships remain one of the most valuable assets you'll ever build.
So here's my question for you:
What can you do this week to intentionally strengthen a relationship that matters to you?
